Atomic Quantum Computing Prototype Lowers the Barrier to Quantum Computing Use
Recently, at the Quantum Computing R&D Centre of CAS Cold Atom, located in the Fiberhome Innovation Valley, Dr. Fu Zhuo, Director of Research and Development, was debugging a laser device to manipulate and measure atomic quantum bits.
He introduced that the atomic quantum computing prototype is a prototype device that uses atoms as quantum bits for computing. Currently, quantum computing prototypes can be mainly classified into atomic quantum computers, superconducting quantum computers, photonic quantum computers, etc. Different types of quantum computing prototypes differ in hardware implementation, operation mode, stability and other aspects.
"An important step in quantum computing applications is to move from laboratory proof of concept to robust integration of hardware. Atomic quantum bits have the advantage of being more stable and easier to move the system towards engineering. CSC Coolwon's products are dedicated to the development of miniaturised transportable quantum computers." Dr Fu Zhuo introduced.
Beside him are two black cabinets, similar to the size of a washing machine and a refrigerator respectively, that were demonstrated at the 2nd Quantum Computing Conference. They are the electronic control cabinet and the physical cabinet, which are labelled "Han Yuan No. 1". This is a portable atomic quantum computing prototype.
Fu Zhuo said, "The successful validation of this prototype has lowered the threshold of using quantum computing, and can allow users in different fields to access, experience, learn, and explore quantum computing."
"Currently, our lab's platform is capable of running over 300 atomic quantum bits, and also has the ability to non-destructively rearrange heteronuclear atomic arrays, with the efficiency of rearrangement algorithms at a leading level." Fu Zhuo said.
Quantum computing is promising in artificial intelligence, biomedicine, finance and other fields. By the Wuhan Institute of Quantum Technology and CAS Cold Atom to build the first domestic atomic quantum computing cloud platform, can provide quantum computing simulation, quantum computing compilation, graphical programming, and other core capabilities, the future user can submit computing tasks to the platform to run on the real machine, to accelerate the integration of quantum computing into the quantum chemical research, development of new drugs and new materials, energy and meteorological simulation and other scenarios.
The core team of CAS Cold Atom is from the Cold Atom Group of the Institute of Precision Measurement of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The company also has precision measurement products, including three gravimeter products and two gradiometer products.
Regarding the quantum precision measurement technology, Tang Biao, general manager of the company, introduced that the traditional measurement technology has certain limitations in resolution and sensitivity, and the quantum precision measurement technology can be accurate to more than one billionth of a magnitude. The miniaturised atomic gravimeter developed by the core team has reached the international advanced level in terms of volume, weight, power consumption, gravity measurement precision and other indicators, and will be applied to a number of geological exploration projects."
